Das Leben ist gut means life is good. At least that's the gist of it. The reason I have it as my tag line though is not because I think life is good; although, in the grand scheme of things, I do think life is good. I have das leben ist gut as my tag line because it's ironic. Let's face the facts: nothing sounds good in German.
I think we're both semi-educated enough to know that Germany is no longer sporting the swastika; however, I admit it myself that I am also semi-educated enough to have goose-stepping and angry Jew-hating-induced pep rallies stuck in my head every time I think about Germany or the German language.
Just take a second and say the words das leben ist gut in a normal voice. Das leben ist gut. Not so bad? Now say it as if you are yelling it at a malnutritioned refugee when he asks for a stale piece of bread during feeding time. DAS LEBEN IST GUT! It sounds terrible.
I guess in closing, you're probably wondering why I would have das leben ist gut as my tag line after all. To be honest, it's not by choice, and after my rather convincing argument towards the potential negativity of the German language, I am slightly disappointed that it is my tag line. But, I came up with this blog when I was in high school, and my tag line is irreversible.
